Know The Facts
Open your U.S passport to page two and you may be surprised by the following warning:
HEALTH INSURANCE. Persons considering foreign travel should determine what health insurance coverage, if any, they require while outside the United States. Medicare does not cover health care costs outside the United States and its territories, except under limited circumstances in Canada and Mexico.
The simple fact is that many international travelers do not have appropriate insurance protection. Government sponsored health programs such as Medicare almost never cover care received in a foreign country. Employer-sponsored plans often limit overseas coverage to emergency care only (and the burden will be on you to prove it's an emergency). |
Safe Vacation Destinations
Submitted by sfti on Sun, 06/21/2009 - 12:02.According to the latest analyzed data from U.S. State Department and the United Nations, the safest countries can be identified. Some of the obvious choices are New Zealand, neutral Switzerland, famously clean Singapore, the Scandinavian countries and countless small island nations
Some of our findings are startling. The Emerald Isle is least violent country in Europe. In fact, according to the latest Mercer rankings, Dublin is less dangerous than major cities in Japan, Australia or Canada.
Cyprus is another destination earning a surprisingly safe ranking. The high per capita income of Cyprus doesn‘t hurt. When trouble mounts in the Middle East, people are often evacuated out through Cyprus because it's the safest destination.
Going from most dangerous to least, the U.S. is the least safe of the Western nations, at No. 24 in per capita murder, well head of France (40th), Britain (46th), Germany (49th) and Japan (60th).

Ticket Mixups
Submitted by sfti on Sun, 06/21/2009 - 11:39.Always check your verification e-mail immediately upon receipt. You can correct your ticket if a mistake is caught early enough, otherwise mistakes can cost extra time and money.
First, the facts. Passengers are not turned away at the gate because of a typo on their tickets. Airline systems sometimes have limits that abbreviate names or lack non-English characters. Last names and first names are frequently reversed. Ticket agents know this. Itinerary problems are another story.
Once again, it always pays to catch mistakes early.
World Headed For a Smash-Up
Submitted by sfti on Sun, 06/21/2009 - 11:27.According to the World Health Organization, 85 percent of countries lack adequate laws to protect travelers against problems related to traffic deaths and injuries. Traffic accidents are the ninth leading cause of death worldwide, surpassing AIDS and TB. The laws just don’t exist. We say, that translates to only one thing: you better be well insured. Safety First Travel Insurance comes to the rescue from the minute you’re in the ambulance.
Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO’s director general, announced in New York. “Even when the legislation is adequate, the problem we have is enforcement.”
The 287-page report surveyed 178 countries, representing 98 percent of the world’s population. Pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcycle riders make up almost half of the deaths.
Safety First Travel Insurance’s travel policies have excellent coverage for traffic mishaps, and we highly recommend this coverage.

You Should Know• Even if you are already enrolled in a health plan, your coverage is limited when you travel abroad. In fact, your plan may not pay to have you safely evacuated if you are critically ill. • Where do you turn to learn which hospitals and doctors meet your standards? Keep up with breaking news about health and safety threats? Translate key medical terms and brand-name drugs? • How do you find a western-trained, English-speaking doctor with the appropriate skills? How do you arrange a convenient appointment and avoid claim forms? • Outside the United States, most hospitals won't provide any treatment until the hospital has received a guarantee of payment, which is rarely issued by a u.s. based health carrier. Without travel insurance, you'll likely pay in advance--as much as tens of thousands of dollars, if your credit card limit allows.
